Otuke East County MP Julius Acon Bua has pledged a renewed commitment to transforming the lives of his constituents through practical community development initiatives aimed at boosting agriculture, improving access to clean water, and enhancing rural infrastructure.
Speaking to the media shortly after his nomination on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Otuke East Constituency outlined his five-year focus on community engagement in agriculture, borehole drilling, and the upgrade and rehabilitation of key infrastructure such as roads.
He emphasised that restocking cattle remains one of his priorities, noting that the people of Lango are traditionally known for cattle keeping, making it a vital sector to support in the next term.
“I will push for the full compensation of the beneficiaries,” Acon pledged.
On health matters, the legislator assured continued improvement of health services through the upgrade of several facilities.
“Kristina Health Centre III was earlier elevated to Health Centre IV, and now the mortuary is being constructed. Soon, we shall have the theatre completed by March 2026,” he said.
Acon also confirmed plans to drill about 10 boreholes across Otuke East County in November. “In the past, I drilled boreholes in Apala and Omoro in Alebtong District and Okwongo Town Council in Otuke East, including in Namasale, Amolatar District,” he added.
Regarding education, Acon noted that Otuke East currently has two secondary schools in Ogor and Orum, with more planned for Ogwete, where shs20 million has already been set aside for construction.
He emphasised the need for greater government investment in education infrastructure, citing population growth, and called for the abolition of salary disparities between arts and science teachers.
“The level of education can only be boosted through equal pay,” he said.
On youth empowerment, Acon expressed concern over the rising youth unemployment, warning that it contributes to crime.
“Youths should focus on commercial farming instead of waiting for white-collar jobs,” he advised.
What voters say
Katie Brenda Amola from Otuke Town Council appealed to Acon to continue supporting the agricultural, health, education, and infrastructure sectors to reduce school dropouts and improve performance.
Sabina Awili, a resident of Ayago Village, Aliri Parish in Ogwete Sub-county, urged Acon to lobby for road rehabilitation to ease the transportation of agricultural products and livestock such as cows, goats, and poultry, which sustain their livelihoods.
“I wish he would support us with oxen to boost our farming and goats for rearing, since the district has long suffered from floods and cattle rustlers,” she said, further urging for more school support.
“Some schools have collapsed due to heavy flooding, which affects children’s learning,” she added.
On the same day, October 22, 2025, Nelson Ayo Odima, the Returning Officer for Otuke Electoral Region, in accordance with the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177, declared Julius Acon Bua duly nominated for the Otuke East Constituency ahead of the 2026 general elections.
He called for peaceful campaigns scheduled to run from November 10, 2025, to January 13, 2026, leading up to polling day on January 15.
