Alleged fake lawyer arrested in Kayunga

The territorial police in Kayunga district have arrested a man identified as Kabunga Hannington for allegedly masquerading as an advocate of the High Court of Uganda.

According to police, the suspect was arrested on Monday, October 27, 2025, at around 10:45 am at the Kayunga Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he was reportedly attempting to represent a client in a civil matter.

Investigations reveal that the certificate number reflected on Kabunga’s purported practising certificate (PC), as listed on the Judiciary’s official website, belongs to another person.

This indicates that Kabunga allegedly forged the document since he has never been enrolled on the roll of advocates.

A credible source at the Kayunga Chief Magistrate’s Court disclosed that the suspect has been representing and defrauding clients in civil cases across Kayunga and Mukono districts.

His arrest and detention have been described as a major relief to the public, many of whom could have fallen victim to his fraudulent activities.

Kabunga now faces charges of forgery and personation. Police have urged anyone who may have been victimised by the suspect to come forward and open cases.
