On Tuesday, an aspirant for the Oyam South MP seat in the 2026 general elections received a hero’s welcome from supporters at home.
Opito Moses is one of the candidates nominated for the NRM party flag. The primary election is scheduled for July 17.
Opito Moses, Patrick Ogwang Obura, Nommy Otyeno, Ojok Fred Oyite, and Denis Okello were in Loro town council prior to a joint campaign at Aber sub-county headquarters on July 8.
As in Loro, each pitch their ideas and explain why they should be given legislative mandate.
He (Opito) was later greeted enthusiastically in Aber (Akaka parish), which many believe will be one of his strongholds.
Opito, a native of the area and former President of the Uganda Students’ Association in Tanzania, was greeted with chants of “Moses, Moses, Moses.”
Speaking recently, Opito said: “I am the Moses in the Bible who has come to save Oyam South from lack of leadership and poverty.”
Biblically, Moses was a central figure who led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and received ten commandments from God.”
“The people of Oyam South have a lot of opportunities. We have fertile land. Right now, we are trying to push the issue of household income. We want to shift our people from growing seasonal crops to growing perennial crops.
“We also have an opportunity: God has blessed us with Atura port. Atura port is a port just like Portbell and we want the government to revatalise Atura port for purposes of transportation of goods and services that can not pass on the roads,” Opito said.
Atura port, he said, is expected to reduce on the costs of products that are brought here.

He said the youth of Oyam South are yearning for development. “They want to participate in that development and since I am part of them as a youth, I will lead them to the promise land just like Moses of the Bible.”
Opito would later walk an estimated 2 kilometres with his hundreds of jubilant supporters, stopping for brief speeches at Corner Aber and Aber Ginnery.
Akello Eunice, from Aber Ginnery said it’s time to send Opito Moses to Parliament. “For many years we have been sending people and we get nothing in return. For example, our schools are not doing well and Aber primary school should have developed more than its current status and my idea is, we should elect Opito Moses not only for the flag but as our MP.”
Akello believes Opito will transform Aber primary school and other schools in the constituency. “We believe that when he’s elected, he’s the only one capable of speaking for the creation of Aber district since Oyam is wide.
“We want change. Look at the road from Akokoro to Kamdini, it’s bad, and Opito will lobby for its rehabilitation,” she added.
“Sincerely I don’t know how to repay you for this love. I’ll never abandon you,” Opito told excited crowds at Corner Aber.
