Sanjay Tanna, a former member of parliament for the Tororo Municipality, paralyzed Agururu A3 village, popularly known as Chaminula on February 4, 2025.
Tanna made an unexpected appearance in Chaminula for a funeral ceremony.
He had gone to mourn the late Asadi Mwendya, the father in law of the Tororo Municipality Mayor Kenneth Orono Nyapidi, where he was received by locals.
The “heroic welcome,” as first reported by East News, paused the funeral program for more than 30 minutes.
When mourners saw Sanjay, their excitement exploded, and they began chanting his name and praising him before he could reach the burial grounds.
Women removed veils and wrappers and laid them on the floor for Sanjay to match the funeral grounds.

Some women were heard saying, “Our man has returned, and Tororo municipality will soon regain its lost glory.”
Mourners, led by Wilberforce Ochwo, a local resident, pleaded with Sanjay to reclaim the Tororo municipality MP seat.
They contended that only tested and trusted leaders, such as Sanjay Tanna, can eradicate greed, corruption, and poor governance in Tororo municipality.
However, while speaking to the mourners, Tanna made no mention of the locals’ demand for his candidacy, leaving the excited mourners in suspense.
In his opening remarks, he praised the deceased as “a man of integrity and high morals” who left “a proud legacy.”
Reflecting on the deceased’s legacy, Tanna criticized the current crop of leaders who are at the forefront of increased land grabbing in Tororo municipality, greed for self-enrichment, and petty personal fights, and questioned how such leaders can have the audacity to return and ask for votes.
According to Sanjay, it is bad for leaders to be so greedy that they take public land that could be used to build important community service infrastructure such as schools and hospitals.
From 2006 to 2016, he represented the Tororo municipality.
According to East News, the municipality experienced growth in areas such as access to clean water, roads, education, and a surge in business, among others.
Tororo municipality is currently by Apollo Yeri Ofwono of NRM.
