Oyam | Conflicts within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Oyam district are becoming more visible.
Recent discussions aimed at encouraging Queen Dorothy Amolo from Oyam South to consider a candidacy for the Oyam North constituency have emerged, as per the leaked information from the NRM district executive.
A meeting was recently held for various aspirants to Parliamentary and district positions. While some loyal aspirants were present, others were conspicuously absent.
Everyone who expressed an interest in Oyam South was present. However, for Oyam North MP seat, only Otala Wilbert, Stephen Okello, and Apollo Oree attended.
During the meeting, Ocen Patrick Oyam, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, stated that the NRM has already established a stronghold in Oyam South, but challenges still exist in the North!
This statement implies that the district’s leadership may be underestimating and ignoring those who have expressed interest in the constituency.
Current efforts to persuade Queen who has already indicated her intention to run against President Museveni, to shift her focus from Oyam South or even the Presidency to Oyam North have sparked discontent among the aspirants competing for the party flag in Oyam North.
tndNews has exclusively learned that some NRM leaders are courting the Queen with the intention of profiting from her purse.
“These leaders see those who have expressed interest as lacking sufficient financial backing,” a party insider told tndNews.
In Oyam South, NRM leaders are also meeting with Jane Francis Acilo, who is vying for the party’s nomination for the position of Woman MP.
Acilo has indicated that she is willing to invest shs1.5 billion in the primary election alone.

“If these issues are not resolved by the upper echelons of NRM leadership, there is a significant risk that Oyam will return to support the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC),” another concerned member of the yellow bus stated.
Who showed up at the meeting?
Aspirants in Oyam South included Patrick Ogwang Obura, Denish Okello Ojok, Otyeno Nommy, Eng. Robert Ogwara, and Ojok Oyite Ojok.
The aspirants for Oyam North were Otala Wilbert, Stephen Okello, and Apollo Oree, with Bala Daniel and Willy Omodo Omodo apologizing for not attending.
The following individuals were present among the Oyam district woman Member of Parliament aspirants: Apili Susan Okech, Acilo Jane Frances; Ajok Loy Bless, Etit Alice Josephine, Anyango Stella and Acan Jennet Proscovia
For the position of Oyam District LC5 chairperson, Dila Benson Walter Oyuku (incumbent) attended, while Ogwal Ojok sent an apology.
