Adupa Ongwech criticizes Ministry of Works for lacking priority in Amolatar

Amolatar | In a letter to the Resident District Commissioner of Amolatar, Felix Adupa Ongwech, who is running for the Kyoga County MP seat in 2026, expressed his displeasure with the Ministry of Works and Transport’s inaction.

Adupa stated that if the ministry does not take advantage of the dry season to repair the Amolatar-Dokolo road, he will be forced to organize a civil demonstration to highlight the government’s failure to address this pressing issue.

Adupa stated in a letter dated February 24, 2025, that the RDC, as the chief government monitor, should remind the Ministry of Works of the urgent need to address the 88-kilometer Amolatar-Dokolo road.

He observed that the road had become impassable during the rainy season.

Adupa went on to say that if the rains return, the Amolatar community will face not only developmental setbacks, but also a lack of opportunities to participate in the monetary economy.

The NRM cadre urged the RDC’s office to actively follow up with the Ministry of Works and Transport to keep these issues from escalating.

He also pointed out that heavy trucks moving to the Dokolo-Amolatar-Kampala route because of earlier road closures contributed to the road’s degradation.

When the Karuma Bridge was closed last year for repairs, the Dokolo-Amolatar route was available in addition to the eastern route for travellers to Lira and Gulu and throughout the region.
