Makerere University graduates 84 army officers

On January 17, 84 UPDF officers graduated from Makerere University with degrees in various disciplines of Defence and Security Studies.

At least 65 officers from the Uganda Military Academy, Kabamba (UMA-K) received Bachelor’s degrees in defence studies, while 19 senior officers from the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka (SCSC) received Master of Arts degrees in defense and security studies.

Brig Gen Richard Karemire, Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports, and Culture, congratulated the officers on their achievements.

He urged them to continue their service to the country and emphasized the importance of preserving the peace that the UPDF has worked tirelessly to maintain.

Brig Gen Karemire, speaking at the luncheon, assured the graduates that their academic milestones would open up new opportunities and contribute to the UPDF’s ongoing professionalisation.

Col. Mark Mugarura, the Chief Instructor at UMA-K, praised the UPDF leadership for implementing such educational programs, noting that they not only improve individual competence but also raise the army’s overall standards.

The graduates thanked the UPDF leadership for allowing them to pursue further education, recognizing its importance in fostering both personal and professional development.

Dr. Justus Twesigye, Dean of Makerere University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, praised the graduates for their discipline and commitment.

He emphasised the importance of education in enhancing national security.
