Kisoro by-election: UPC President to camp in district

Kisoro

Kisoro | Jimmy Akena Obote, the UPC President and Lira City East MP, is expected in Kisoro tomorrow (Saturday) to campaign for the party’s candidate for district woman MP, Ingabire Mable.

Kisoro will elect a new woman MP to replace Sarah Mateke, who died in September. NRM, NUP, and UPC are political parties with candidates vying for the seat.

According to the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), they are gaining more and more support and fiercely competing with the candidates of other parties.

On Wednesday, UPC and candidate Mable traveled through Bufumbira. On Thursday, the Congress team campaigned in Bufumbira East.

On Friday, the UPC is expected to set up camp in Bufumbira North to rally support for their candidate.

“Kisoro has long been known as a strong base for UPC, particularly in the 1980s,” says Muzeyi Faizo, head of media and communications.

In the Oyam and Dokolo by-elections, the UPC won both seats. The current Members of Parliament, Dr. Eunice Apio Otuko and Sarah Agiti Nyangkori, succeeded the late Col. Okello Engola Macodowogo and Cecelia Atim Ogwal, respectively.

The Electoral Commission has set the polling date for the Kisoro district woman MP by-election as Thursday, November 14, 2024.

If they win Kisoro, the UPC will become the most successful political party to achieve “a triple” in less than three years in recent history.
