Gulu | The Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, General (Rtd) Caleb Akandwanaho, known as Salim Saleh, presided over the graduation of 419 cadres in Gulu.
These cadres underwent a civic education training program organised by the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology, and National Guidance.
The training, which attracted cadre leaders from the Acholi sub-region, Resident District Commissioners, Local Government leaders, and youths, took place in Lokole, Agago district from July 19 to July 25, 2024.
Gen Salim Saleh encouraged the Acholi sub-region’s leaders to adopt mechanised farming, leveraging available technology and land to increase production.
Saleh, who is President Museveni’s brother, emphasised that his role is not political, but rather transformational, which is why he encouraged visitors to the region’s mechanised and large-scale enterprises to inspire change.
Akelo Beatrice Akori, State Minister for Monitoring and Economic Planning and woman MP for Agago, thanked Saleh for organising a tour of Terra Agri Farm and Atiak Sugar Factory for the cadres.
The tour, Minister Akello said, broadened Acholi residents’ perspectives.
She also praised the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance for launching this transformative training in Acholi sub-region, pointing out that it helps to dispel myths and misinformation about government programmes.
Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, Commander of the 4 Division, thanked Gen Saleh for the training initiative. He encouraged cadres to share their knowledge with local communities, thereby instilling patriotism and nationalistic values.
Busizoori emphasised the importance of combating corruption and promoting national development, urging leaders to abandon divisive politics in favour of productivity and new ideas.
Brig Gen Keith Katungi, Commander 5 Division, urged cadres to shift their mindset and embrace hard work following a week-long training.
He stated that areas with high levels of illiteracy and poverty frequently experience conflict, emphasising the importance of communities utilising government programs to improve their livelihoods.
At Terra Agri Farm, he encouraged cadres to apply the 4-acre model system to their smallholdings without being intimidated by large-scale enterprises.
He stressed that streamlining land ownership in the Acholi sub-region is critical for success, citing the principle that “what belongs to all belongs to none.”
The training aimed to prepare communities for effective participation in national programs and covered a wide range of topics, including civic education, ideology, political economy, and national guidance.
