Crash

Lira | On Saturday, May 25, 2024, as the 4th Champions of the FUFA Drum Edition, the Lango Province team was travelling from Dokolo to Lira, a fatal road crash occurred.

The Province had traveled for a friendly match with Dokolo Select as part of the FUFA Drum trophy tour.

Unfortunately, as the visiting team returned to Lira City, their van collided with a Fuso truck transporting members of a marriage ceremony.

The unfortunate crash occurred near Abutadi, on the long Lira-Dokolo-Soroti highway.

According to Lango Province’s PRO, Abel Ogwang, the team is partially fair, despite suffering serious injuries.

“Around the area of Abutadi, immediately after speaking on phone with some people in Kampala, I heard screams coming from the front plus the driver…. we were already being crushed by a Fuso truck from a marriage ceremony in Alebtong,” he recalled on Sunday.

Ogwang said two children of Musafiri Suwed (Blick), the PRO of the Dokolo district, died instantly.

“Two of the three children of Musafiri perished on spot while Mr. Blick, the driver, team doctor plus Darius Ojok of Maroons football club are out of danger. However, they have broken limbs and deep cuts,” he added.

He did, however, say that passengers in the Fuso truck have serious bruises, cuts, and broken limbs.

According to on-site observations as of press time, the total number of injured is around 49 (with some being treated at Lira Regional Referral Hospital and others at Galilee, Avento, and Lira Medical Centre).

By Sunday morning, Blick and Darius were reportedly out of danger.

However, on the same day, a nurse who spoke to tndNews on the condition of anonymity said the team doctor and driver were still in the Intensive Care Unit.

As this story develops, tndNews is awaiting a police statement regarding the cause of the crash.
