Abim | The relief food scandal has rocked Atunga sub-county in Abim district, resulting in the arrest of LC3 chairperson Okongo Joe Mathew.
The scandal has taken a dramatic turn, with Okongo now blaming senior officials for the missing food.
Okongo, who is currently in police custody, has revealed that he is not alone in the scandal, naming Senior Assistant Secretary Dmollo Omara Alfred and sub-accountant Owilli James Obonyo as accomplices.
The community is outraged and demands justice. They are calling for the immediate transfer of the two technical personnel involved.
“We will not let this matter go unaddressed,” stated Okech Richard, an LC5 councillor for Atunga. “We demand justice and accountability from our leaders.”
Adong Victor Joyce, Abim’s deputy council speaker, lamented the situation, asking, “How can we expect the vulnerable community to survive when they are robbed by their own leaders?”
She is now calling for swift action against those responsible.
Awilli Christine, a community member, expressed frustration and anger, saying, “The government is indirectly killing us by preventing us from mining gold in Okemer, and now our leaders are stealing from us.”
“We demand justice and an end to the corruption.”
Two bags of beans and 7 bags of phoso are said to be the stolen quantity.
The relief food scandal has sparked outrage and disappointment in the community, with many demanding transparency and accountability from their leaders.
Abim district leadership must act quickly to address the issue and restore community trust.
