Amolatar | On May 19, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party welcomed new members from various parties.
Among them is Angwech Colline, who ran as an independent candidate in the previous election.
Angwech told hundreds of party members in Adagkwac village, Anywalwake parish, Agwingiri sub-county, Amolatar district, that she joined the UPC with the intention of running for Kyoga County in 2026.
“I am delighted to be joining UPC today,” she said. “UPC is the party that raised me; officially joining it is to help us move forward, to ensure that we elect good leaders who are concerned with the common person rather than the accumulation of wealth.”
She urged Congress members to speak boldly, describing the UPC as Uganda’s best party.
“We are the best party in Uganda, with the best party president, and that alone should demonstrate the strength of our party, which seeks to see a better Uganda,” Angwech stated.
She also stated that she is willing to support the party in order for it to succeed and shine.
Meanwhile, Amulaferi Ongwen Okao, the UPC party chairperson in Amolatar, welcomed Angwech to the party on behalf of Secretary General Fred Ebil Ebil.
He handed her the party card and constitution.
“On behalf of the secretary general, I am delighted to welcome Angwech Colline and all new members to the party UPC,” Ongwen said.
Angwech is the country director of Farway Friends, a non-governmental organisation. She also serves as the director of Global Leaders Nursery and Boarding Primary School in Amolatar.
In 2021, she ran as an independent candidate for the district’s female MP. She came up short against Agnes Atim Apea.
Ongwen also urged members to be patient as the registration process is underway, stating that they will see results very soon.
He also stated that the party intends to register new members and build party structures from the ground up.
Patrick Balmoi, another convert, stated that he is ready to take on the role of LC3 in 2026.
