Amolatar| A team from the President’s Office, led by Lt. Col. Abako Brian, praised Amolatar district local government for providing good service to its communities.
Lt. Col. Abako and his team visited the district on Thursday, May 16, to monitor government programmes. He expressed gratitude for what they received on the ground.
The team went to see the construction of Etam Seed secondary school, roads, and PDM programmes. Abako stated that the information they had prior to the trip was completely different from what was on the ground, and thus praised the district leaders for their “commandable job.”
He stated that the information conveyed to the President was negative regarding service delivery, urging leaders at all levels to unite and collaborate rather than reporting to the President what is wrong.
Among the issues he said reached the President were health workers arriving late and shouting at patients, mismanagement of government funds, and a community’s failure to understand service delivery.
“The President was informed that no government projects were being implemented in Amolatar, including schools, roads, hospitals, emyooga, and PDM, which prompted us to come and confirm. But I would like to encourage leaders to keep up the excellent work they are doing on the ground. I am also requesting unity from leadership to avoid repeating information to the President,” Abako said.
He advised district leadership to always involve lower-level leaders and the community in monitoring government projects so that they are aware of their progress.
“When going for monitoring, make sure to get along with lower leaders, MPs, and the community so that when asked about any government projects in their area, they can positively respond,” Abako advised.
However, in response to the issues of the Fisheries Protection Unit and fishermen at Lake Kyoga, Abako advised the leaders to unite and speak with the commander of the FPU so that they could determine the best way to resolve the problem that was causing shooting in the lake.
“Sit down with the FPU commander, discuss issues that fishermen believe are incorrect, invite stakeholders and all leaders at various levels to attend, and ensure a proper fishing community.”
According to him, the district’s top leaders have demonstrated no unity. “The Lake’s issues may take long, but they are simple and can be resolved.”
Meanwhile, Geoffery Ocen Kiring, chairperson LC5 of Amolatar district, stated that the district always implements any government programmes that come to the district.
He praised Uganda’s government, led by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for doing “an incredible job for the people of Amolatar.”
Mpiiwa Paul, the CAO of Amolatar, confirmed receiving shs500 million of the shs1 billion approved by Parliament for district road works.
He added that the district is working on roads, levelling and rasing swampy areas, and that the main challenge they face is routine breakdowns of road equipment.
James Olobo Dubai, Kyoga North MP and NRM chairman of Amolatar district, has requested that the government recruit hospital staff for the new hospital.
Dubai also requested the government to facelift Amolatar Health Centre enter IV.
Regarding the fishermen, he stated that those who were recently killed fought with the FPU.
He also stated that no Parliament has passed a motion to remove the UPDF from the lakes.
MP Dubai warned fishermen not to use illegal nets if they do not want to be killed by the FPU.
Francis Rwotlonyo, the RDC of Amolatar Okello, stated that his first goal was unity and urged leaders to collaborate.
“We can not stay apart; let us work together so our community does not suffer.”
He urged leaders to control their emotional intelligence to avoid being blamed by voters.
Docus Akite, Namasale sub-county’s chief stated that the government should assist in ensuring early delivery of drugs to health facilities.
“I am very annoyed at how the drugs are delivered to the district. The government should ensure that drugs arrive on time, not as they are being delivered,” Akite added.
