Seoul| Members of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Jeonbuk, who cherish peace, gathered to commemorate peace and promote its realization in the world.
The Global Region 12 of the International Women’s Peace Group under its Regional Director Soojeong Lee held the 5th “International Women’s Peace Day” Proclamation Ceremony.
The event took place at the Jeonbuk Women & Family Foundation on April 26 under the theme: “Women, Achieving the Peace the World Needs!”
The event was organized by the Korean Regional Alliance (Jeonju, Iksan, Gunsan, Jeongeup) of the Global Region 12, and was attended by about 300 women leaders and members.

The ceremony started with a pre-event performance by pianist Sungkyu Park, followed by a commemorative speech by hyunsook Yoon, the representative of IWPG, and a congratulatory video speech by Jennifer Aguti, the representative of the National Association of Women’s Organizations in Uganda.
Soojeong Lee, the Regional Director of Global Region 12, presented the significance and importance of the Peace Committee.
This was followed by a presentation by Professor Eunok Choi from Gunsan University and the inauguration of the Peace Committee Representatives, Go Ji-hyunsook and seven others.
In her speech, Representative hyunsook Yoon stated, “Currently, nearly 60% of the population suffering from severe famine worldwide consists of women and girls, and this ratio is even higher in conflict-ridden nations.
“To create a world where our beloved children can live safely, we must achieve peace. We realize the need for a peace system in our lives and join in urging the legislation of DPCW to establish peace in the international community.”
Regional Director Soojeong Lee mentioned, “During the 68th UN Commission on the Status of Women held in March, IWPG and the Ugandan Ministry of Gender and Culture discussed the role of women as agents of peace and are planning a five-year development plan.

“We are communicating with the representatives of NGOs in our partner nations like Uganda, Kenya, and California to implement this. If women unite, their impact can be very powerful.

Furthermore, she stated, “The IWPG Peace Committee will play a central role in forming small peace communities around the world to drive change. I hope that the Peace Committee inaugurated today will research from the small beginnings and collaborate to achieve the targeted peace.”
The participants recited the ‘International Women’s Declaration of Peace’ and conducted a paper airplane performance to advocate for and urge support for the ‘Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War’ (DPCW), all in unison.
Meanwhile, the “International Women’s Peace Day” was established on April 26, 2019, as women worldwide united to protect precious lives from war and pass on peace as a legacy.
