Murder

Lira | Residents of Aromo Town Board in Aromo Sub-County, Lira District, remain stunned by the murder of their leader and popular businessman, Robert Odongo.

He was murdered at night on Wednesday, April 27, 2024.

Ameri Ojok Odongo, the LC3 chairperson for Aromo sub-county, confirmed the murder of Odongo, a well-known businessman in the community.

Odongo Opac was a popular nickname for the deceased.

Ojok claims that the murder was committed by his deceased wife, Susan Acen, who was later lynched by the angry mob.

“The angry residents took the law into their own hands, followed the lady who was in police custody, and lynched her to death,” Ojok said.

According to the local leader, the wife may have used unknown killers to murder her husband.

“We believe the woman may have used the unknown killers who overpowered him.” Otherwise, the husband was once a soldier.

Territorial Police in Lira district are currently investigating the murders of Robert Odongo, 54, and his wife Susan Acen, 37.

Emmanuel Odongtoo, LC1 chairperson of Obot B village, reported the crimes to the Aromo police.

“Police findings allege that on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the reporter went to the home of Odongo, who was also the LC1 of Akaidebe village and Mayor Aromo Town board, to get some money to buy goats, but found his second wife Acen at home, who told him that Odongo was not there,” North Kyoga Regional PRO, SP Okema Jimmy explained.

According to the findings, Odongtoo later became suspicious, searched around, and discovered something parked in a sack and hidden under the bed, only to discover that Odongo Robert had died, Okema added.

Acen quickly began fleeing from the angry mob for safety.

The police immediately responded to rescue Acen and later placed her in police custody, but the community became enraged and followed the police, forcing Acen out of the police cell and lynching her to death.

SP Okema stated that police officers led by the DPC of the Lira district, as well as homicide and SOCO teams, visited and documented the crime scene.

The teams discovered three sacks containing stone fragments and a piston believed to have been used to kill Odongo.

Racheal Alum, Acen Susan’s daughter, has been arrested to assist investigators, according to SP Okema.
