Lira: Wife murdered in cold blood, husband takes off

Lira | North Kyoga Region (Lango) has become a murder hotspot in recent months with at least 3 cases recorded a week.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 5, PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said the territorial Police in Lira City West Division registered a case of suspected murder on February 5.

The crime, according to reports, occurred in Areco cell, Amuca ward in Lira City West Division at around 12:30 pm.

According to SP Okema, the murder was reported to Police by Denis Okello Ataha, 35, a boda-boda rider and a resident of the same area.

SP Okema identified the deceased as Evaline Adoch. She was killed aged 39.

The suspected murderer was also identified as Patrick Odongo, 42, a resident of Adyel-Omwodo village Ot-Kwac parish, Alito sub-county in Kole district.

The pair have been staying as wife and husband and blessed with five children.

Okema added that the two, however, had separated due to domestic problems.

“The deceased had gone back to her parents with the children but on February 3, 2024, Odongo followed Adoch requesting her to go back to her home which she refused.

“On February 5, 2024, the parents of the deceased called for a meeting to have their matters resolved but still it failed, instead Odongo picked a hoe handle and hit Adoch on her head killing her instantly,” the Police’s statement reads in part.

The regional PRO said a team of Police officers from Lira City West Division Police Station led by OC CID booked out to the scene on information with the homicide team, SOCO and other officers.

“The deceased body was found lying in a pool of blood, her body was picked and conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem,” said Okema.

A case of murder was registered at Lira City West Division under CRB:135/2024.

Okema also appealed to the public to aid Police with any information regarding the suspect.

He (the suspect) has been advised to hand over himself to the nearest Police facility for statement recording to support investigations.
