Police’s CID spokesperson: “A private guard was caught in ‘flagrante delicto’ by cameras: his colleague is at large.”
Mukono – January 16, 2022: Unknown thugs on Saturday 15 January 2022 broke into a Coca-Cola depot at Nagalama in Mukono district.
According to Charles Twiine, PRO of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), the 5 am raid was assisted by a private security guard.
“Police cameras captured the private guard in active participation (flagrante delicto). One guard arrested and another one on run,” Twiine added.
He revealed that shs15m cash and a laptop valued at 600k were stolen.
As per the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2020, Mukono district and Nagamala recorded a total of 3,374 different sets of crimes.
In Mukono, a total of 2,383 crimes were committed: 182 were economic crimes, 68 robberies; 798 thefts and 185 break-ins. Theft was the topmost crime committed followed by other crimes at 583.
Nagalama registered a total of 991 crimes: 66 were break-ins, 257 theft cases; 39 robberies and other crimes at 259.
According to data. ug, quoting Uganda Police Annual Crime Report of 2020, a total of 195,931 crimes were recorded across the country.
