The area councillor for Amuca Ward also the Deputy Speaker of Lira City West Division Ambrose Ogweng Acai condemned that act, saying, “It is wrong for one to take away his life in youthful days.”
The public should desist from these kinds of acts, he said during an interview.
Suicide is becoming rampant in Lango sub-region, according to Ogweng, attributing it to ignorance.
He appealed to members of the community to always share their problems with friends or family members as opposed to committing suicide as it brings bad omen in the community.
“Committing suicide is a crime before God and even the Constitution of Uganda condemns it,” Ogweng said.
Last weekend alone, four people committed suicide in Lango sub-region with one Patrick Oming, the Parish Chief of Amokoge Parish in Wiodyek sub-county Lira district opening the door.
According to a Police report, the Lango sub-region leads in suicide and murder cases compared to other regions.
