Lira | Agnes Linda Auma, a member of Parliament for Lira district women, has backed the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party while criticizing the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
On Sunday, December 8, Auma highlighted the challenges faced in Acede, Orem parish, in Bar sub-county, where she noted the political rivalry between NRM and UPC.
The rivalry is particularly in relation to UPC president Jimmy Akena and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of NRM ahead of 2026. The woman MP emphasized the importance of party unity and collaboration in dealing with the community’s pressing issues.
Auma also stated that she is committed to supporting President Museveni and the NRM agenda, while acknowledging the UPC’s contributions.
The political landscape necessitates a collaborative approach to governance, particularly in light of the ongoing challenges faced by constituents, she said.
MP Auma told constituents that one of her efforts is to promote agricultural development in Lira district, such as the implementation of tractor services to increase farming productivity.

“Cooperative societies are crucial for promoting economic development and raising living standards in the area,” she added.
The NRM MP, Auma, has actively been participating in community initiatives aimed at empowering local groups and improving access to resources.
She has called for increased support towards cooperative societies in order to ensure long-term development and economic resilience.
As the chairperson of the Agriculture Committee of the 11th Parliament, Auma is also advocating for improved infrastructure, such as electricity access and road maintenance, to facilitate better connectivity and service delivery in Lira district.
Through her support, different communities have formed groups dedicated to a variety of activities, including the promotion of cultural practices, savings and community engagement.
These groups, known for their active participation, include Okony Pacu, Acede Youth Group, and Mara Mio Ikanyakino, among others.
Auma has also helped form a choir, the Can Apoto Atura Choir, which is affiliated with the Ayira Zone and is dedicated to promoting community spirit through music.
Ketty Aguma leads one women’s group that has successfully mobilized approximately 150 members in Agulukure, Ayamo parish.
