Kole court sets date to begin hearing CDO Ejura’s rights abuse complaints

Kole |On March 15, 2024, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit arrested Aciro Lucy Ejura, the CDO of Aboke Town Council, Kole.

The arrest follows a series of allegations. One of them was that she defrauded Oryemcan Women’s Group of more than shs1,020,000 between January and May 2022.

She pretended to be the only person authorised to deposit the funds into the group’s account at the Bank of Africa, Lira City branch.

Another offence was that she received shs480,000 from the Obanga Akica Women’s Group at Aboke Town Council in November 2023.

Between May 2020 and January 2023, she allegedly obtained over shs7,016,000 from Okole Women’s Group by falsely claiming that it was improperly disbursed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The final charge was that in August 2023, at Aboke Town Council, Aciro Lucy obtained over shs608,000 from Aparango Women’s Group by falsely claiming that she was the only one authorised to bank it.

She was later remanded for a month before being granted court bail. She claims that while in the police cell and later on remand in prison, she was denied food and her rights were violated.

She has also accused the police and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit of violating human rights procedures during her arrest.

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Ejura filed her complaints with the Magistrates Court.

The same Court accepted her complaints and directed State Attorney Kahuame Chris Mwesamze to look into Ejura’s complaints within one month.

Magistrate Grade One Sserwadda Angela also ordered Ejura to present evidence regarding her complaints.

The Court has set August 6, 2024 as the date it will begin hearing the accused’s complaints.

Meanwhile, Ejura has denied all charges before the Court.
