Boy, 13, sold his chicken, bricks to support Gulu COVID-19 taskforce

Gulu boy who’s only 13 years old on Friday surprised leaders when he donated Uganda Shs50, 000 to the Gulu COVID-19 district task force.

Richard Opiyo Ogwen, becomes the youngest donor in Acholi sub-region, and northern Uganda in general to give generously.

As reported by Gangwa News, one of the Acholi’s digital newspapers, Opiyo lives in Unyama sub-county, 8 km out of Gulu Municipality.

The boy told the district taskforce leaders that: “I made some bricks, sold my chicken to get the money.”

“I was motivated by the plight of the people being shared on Radio stations who are suffering because of the lockdown,” he said, according to Gangwa News.

Major Santos Okot Lapolo, Gulu RDC who’s also the chairperson of the taskforce commended the “young boy’s big-heartedness”, saying that “everyone should emulate him [young man] and help the vulnerable people”.

Speaking on phone to TND News Friday evening, Mr Yoweri Idiba, Gulu District Health Officer [DHO] says there are currently 95 people quarantined in the district.
