Buliisa Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Sylvester Tumukrwate has warned the residents against active participation in vandalism, an act which has left most of the public government-installed facilities degraded.
The RDC said the act of vandalism is now deep-rooted in the district and clearly waves the red flag to government efforts to ensure better public service deliveries.
Tumukurate said that the district has had many of those cases within health facilities, camps and on roads in which people dismantle government-installed and erected structures for their own gains.
On roads, he said that more cases are registered on the Buliisa-Hoima Road where talking road signs are vandalised and others are stolen.
However, security efforts have been on where several culprits have been arrested, disclosing that Buliisa youths are the key players.
“We understand that most of those youths have nothing to do for their living that’s why they get involved in such acts which we shall not allow to continue in the district,” he noted.
In addition, the District Security Committee also convened and resolved that whoever is caught in the act should be apprehended and tried in courts of law and also be charged by the Court if found guilty.
He, however, called for joint efforts to contain the vice. The RDC also offered advice to youth to desist from negative attitudes and acts of undermining government efforts on service delivery.
Tumukrwate was speaking at the commissioning of a water project at Avogera Health Centre III and Kigwera Health Center III in Ngwendo sub-county, Buliisa district on Thursday.
He also cautioned the beneficiaries to ensure proper use of the water project and protect it from damage.
The water facilities were constructed by Total Energies E and P Uganda Limited in conjunction with Engineers without Borders East Africa.
