Gulu – The installation of CCTV cameras and automatic number plate reader is ongoing in Gulu municipality as Gulu awaits City status come 2021.
ASPJimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa regional police spokesperson said on Monday afternoon during his weekly press conference.
Mr Okema adds that over 8 stands has been fixed, already.
He identified some of the many key places where these cameras will be fixed; naming Layibi roundabout, Koro, Lacor and a road from Lacor up-to Nimule, and from Unyama to Kitgum district.
He added that these cameras will help combat the high crime rates in Gulu such as “theft, and car theft, and to monitor street kids and other thugs.”

“The cameras will help to track, view movement of people through our personnel at the control centre,” Aswa regional police spokesperson told media in Acholi sub-region.
The police further appeals to members of community who have CCTV cameras in their homes or offices to cooperate, and link them to the one of police “for larger coverage and efficiency”.
“The installation of the cameras will be over before Gulu gain its city status,” he reveals.
