UPC tells members to take part in the upcoming by-elections

These elective positions fell vacant due to failed nominations, issues with electoral areas, resignation, ties, logistical failures and death, as per the electoral commission (EC).

Kampala—14, October 2021: Uganda’s electoral body, the electoral commission (EC) has issued a timetable for the by-elections in the local government politics.

The vacant positions include that of the district chairperson, sub-county and municipal chairpersons, among others.

Now, the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party is calling upon all her party members in those respective areas where the by-elections are going to be held to “take note and participate accordingly”.

Addressing a weekly press conference on Wednesday, Arach Oyat Sharon who is the party spokesperson said all party leaders in those respective electoral areas are encouraged to work hand in hand with party members to identify, by consensus suitable candidates who will carry the party flag in the forthcoming by-elections.

“We want to inform members that these by-elections will be held on 15th and 16th December 2021 accordingly. Party members are urged to keenly follow the electoral program that will start with updating of the National Voters’ Register from 22nd–26th October 2021, and participate in all exercises as the road map,” Arach added.

She urged members to take note that nominations will take from 29th–30th November 2021 at district headquarters.

“Where there is more than one (1) interested members and consensus has failed, the respective party branch leader should formerly notify the party Electoral Commission at the National Secretariat not later than 10th November 2021 purposely to allow the commission to arrange for primaries.”
