Makerere University has reminded all students that paying tuition fees alone does not complete the registration process, as every student is also required to pay an annual Shs18,000 contribution to the university’s Endowment Fund. The institution says students must provide proof of payment to meet the registration requirements.
In a circular issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Academic Registrar Professor Buyinza Mukadasi directed students to make the contribution through the university’s designated payment channels. The charge is payable once every academic year, meaning students are not expected to pay it every semester.
The requirement is not a newly introduced charge but follows a resolution passed by Makerere University’s Council during its 167th meeting held on June 5, 2025. The latest communication is intended to remind students about the existing obligation as the university continues enforcing its payment procedures.
According to the university, the Endowment Fund is intended to strengthen its long-term financial position and support institutional development. Contributions are held and invested to provide financial support over time, helping the university meet some of its future needs.

Students can make payments through the online student portal by opening the Bills and Invoices section and selecting Endowment Fees. The system generates a Payment Reference Number (PRN), which can then be used to complete the transaction through the available payment options. Students can also use the USSD option by dialling 2122*1#, entering merchant code 985332 and following the instructions.
Another option is the NCBA NOW UG application, where students can select Muzuri Pay, search for Makerere University–MUK ACMIS and proceed with payment. Those who prefer manual payments can visit the NCBA agent at the Gift and Souvenir Shop in the university’s Main Building or pay at any Stanbic Bank branch.
Makerere has provided two designated bank accounts for students using the manual payment method: NCBA account number 220868200029 at TWED Towers and Stanbic account number 9030020625081 at Makerere Branch. Both accounts are registered under the name Makerere University Endowment Fund, and students have been advised to keep their payment slips and receipts for verification.
The university has also addressed students who may have paid the contribution before the latest reminder, saying earlier payments are still being reconciled with its records. Further guidance will be provided by the Endowment Fund on verification, while students experiencing difficulties or seeking clarification have been directed to contact the Revenue Office in the Directorate of Finance at CTF 1. The reminder means students should ensure their Shs18,000 contribution is properly recorded alongside their other university payments.
