Madubala, the shoe hawker who previously attracted public attention for his support of National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has surprised many social media users after publicly attacking the opposition leader. In a video circulating online, Madubala is heard accusing his former political ally of misleading Ugandans.
In the recording, Madubala describes Bobi Wine as an opposition imposter and scammer, questioning his commitment to the struggle against the government. He argues that the NUP leader is giving ordinary Ugandans false hope while allegedly pursuing personal interests rather than the political change he publicly advocates for.
Madubala also urges members of the public to stop believing in Bobi Wine, claiming that the opposition leader’s intentions are different from what he tells his supporters. His remarks have attracted attention because of his previous public association with the NUP leader and the support he received from opposition supporters.
The latest outburst has left several NUP supporters surprised, particularly those who reportedly contributed money to help him after his release from prison. Some had viewed him as one of the ordinary Ugandans who had stood with Bobi Wine and faced difficulties because of his political association.
Madubala previously made headlines following his arrest over allegations involving an attack on a family. His release was reportedly linked to an intervention by Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, after which he began making statements praising the government.
His apparent change in political position has now triggered fresh debate, with social media users questioning what could have caused him to turn against someone he previously supported. Others have pointed to the financial assistance he received from well-wishers after leaving prison.
The video has also reopened discussions about political loyalty, personal convictions and the expectations that come with public support. However, Madubala’s remarks represent his personal views, and the reasons behind his change of position have not been independently established.
For now, his criticism of Bobi Wine has become a major talking point among Ugandan social media users, especially within NUP circles. Whether the shoe hawker will provide further explanations about his sudden change of attitude remains to be seen.
