The Government of Uganda is reportedly planning to construct a house on land belonging to the late Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu in recognition of his contribution to the country’s music and entertainment industry.

The development was announced during a visit to Matovu’s family by State Minister for Information and Technology Joyce Nabbosa Ssebuggwawo and other government officials who visited to pay tribute to the veteran musician.

Speaking after the visit, Ssebuggwawo said the government maintains a working relationship with different players in the creative industry and remains committed to supporting efforts that recognise their contributions to Uganda.

The minister reportedly said the government would honour Matovu’s memory by constructing a house on his land, describing the planned project as part of efforts to recognise the musician’s long service to the country’s entertainment sector.

“Government has a good working relationship with the different sectors of art, and through this relationship, we are going to help honour the memory of the late Moses Matovu by constructing a house on his land,” Ssebuggwawo said.

Matovu was one of Uganda’s most celebrated musicians and a founding member of Afrigo Band, a group whose music career spanned several decades. He served as the band’s longtime leader and played a significant role in shaping the country’s live music scene.

The 77-year-old musician died on September 24, 2026, after reportedly sustaining injuries during an early-morning confrontation in Kibuli. His death shocked fans, fellow musicians and members of Uganda’s entertainment industry.
