Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has expressed his disappointment over what he described as the mistreatment of soldiers, saying the greatest pain for him is seeing some government officials allegedly benefiting from resources meant for military personnel.

In a message shared on social media, Gen Muhoozi said President Yoweri Museveni taught him the importance of defending Uganda and being ready to sacrifice for the country.

“Mzee taught me to fight and die for Uganda. Many of my comrades are either dead or casualties. The most painful thing is to have people in government who only want to steal from my soldiers,” Gen Muhoozi wrote.

The CDF said many soldiers have given their lives and suffered injuries while serving the nation, adding that their sacrifices should never be ignored.

He explained that the memories of fallen comrades and those who were wounded in service continue to motivate him to protect the interests of soldiers.

Gen Muhoozi said what frustrates him most is seeing individuals entrusted with public responsibilities accused of putting personal interests ahead of the welfare of soldiers.

His remarks have sparked discussions about the treatment, welfare and support provided to members of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

The CDF has previously spoken about the need to respect soldiers and recognise the sacrifices they make while protecting the country.

He said military personnel often face difficult conditions, leaving their families and risking their lives whenever they are called upon to serve.
