Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has appeared to soften his earlier stance towards Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Haruna Kasolo following a dispute over the minister’s recent trip to Türkiye.Muhoozi had earlier questioned Kasolo’s decision to travel to Türkiye, saying the minister had not obtained the clearance he had demanded before leaving Uganda.

He also indicated that Kasolo would be required to explain why he travelled without his permission.The issue attracted attention after Muhoozi warned that ministers who travelled outside Uganda without his clearance could face a Shs30 million fine.

Kasolo’s trip therefore raised questions about whether he would face any action over his decision to travel.Kasolo was in Türkiye as part of Uganda’s diplomatic engagements, with his reported activities focusing on areas including trade, investment, healthcare and coffee processing.

However, Muhoozi has now struck a noticeably different tone when addressing the minister. In his latest message, he described Kasolo as a “very good cadre” and indicated that the two would discuss the matter.“You are a very good cadre.
