Officials from the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) have demanded the immediate dismissal of the treason case against their founding leader, Dr Kizza Besigye, arguing that recent court testimony has raised questions about the evidence being presented against him.

The party leaders made the demand on Monday during a press conference held at the PFF headquarters along Katonga Road in Kampala, where they addressed developments surrounding the case.

According to PFF officials, testimony from prosecution witness Wilson Andrew, also known as Orlando, has exposed what they describe as a case that was allegedly built around planted firearms.

The witness reportedly told the High Court that the Nairobi apartment where Dr Besigye was arrested had been pre-arranged and that Kenyan police officers placed guns inside the room.

PFF leaders said the testimony had weakened the prosecution’s case and called for the charges against their leader to be dropped immediately.

Dr Kizza Besigye is facing treason-related charges, with prosecutors alleging that he was involved in activities aimed at overthrowing the government of President Yoweri Museveni. Besigye has denied the accusations.

The opposition party maintains that the charges are politically motivated and has continued to demand what it describes as justice and fairness in the handling of the case.

The prosecution has presented its case before court, while the defence team continues to challenge the evidence and circumstances surrounding Besigye’s arrest.

The court proceedings have attracted public attention, with supporters of Dr Besigye closely following developments as the case continues.

Meanwhile, PFF officials have reiterated their call for the charges to be dismissed, saying the recent testimony should be considered in determining the direction of the case.
