A severe hailstorm has destroyed crops and killed a cow in Aromi parish, Akwon sub-county, Amolatar district.

The storm, which occurred on Tuesday night, was accompanied by strong winds and hailstones.

It reportedly destroyed crops like cassava, maize, simsim, millet, and vegetables like cabbages across the parish.

According to the Akwon sub-county LC3 chairperson, Anthony Ogwal Obile, a cow belonging to Enyangu Bangwelo was killed after a tree fell on it during the storm.

The hailstorm also damaged Baptist Church in Aromi parish.

Ogwal said local leaders had begun collecting information about the damages to submit to the district authorities.

He appealed to the Amolatar District Disaster Management Office to support the affected residents, who have lost their crops and other property.

He further warned residents against keeping animals under trees during rainy weather, urging them to move the animals to safer shelters to prevent further deaths.

The warning follows an earlier advisory from the Uganda National Meteorological Authority cautioning the public about possible severe weather and advising them to protect their livestock.
