Kasirye Twah, regional spokesperson for Greater Masaka, has confirmed a fatal road crash on the night of August, 3, 2026 at around 11pm.
Twah said the regional police registered a fatal road crash in Lwera Swamp, Kamunga trading centre, along the Kampala–Masaka highway.
The crash involved a Toyota Hiace Taxi: UA 662AQ and a Sino Truck: UBS 040F which was transporting sand.
Fourteen people, Twah said, “died on the spot, all from the taxi.” “Four injured victims, two from each vehicle, are admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.”
Police visited the scene and investigations are underway.
“Efforts to trace the fleeing driver are ongoing,” he said in a statement.
This latest crash brings the number of those killed across the country in less than 30 days to more than fift five (55).
