Amolatar council approves new mortuary at health centre IV

Amolatar district council has officially approved a proposal to construct a new mortuary at Amolatar Health Centre IV.

The facility is to be funded by the Amolatar Woman Member of Parliament, Janet Auma Okao.

The decision was reached on Monday, August 3, 2026, during a heated special council meeting summoned specifically to approve the project.

Ogang Polycap, male councillor for Etam town council and secretary for finance, introduced an amendment to the original proposal.

Following his submission, the majority of the councillors voted to back the amended motion.

However, a shift in the agreement left several members questioning the ultimate motive behind the sudden change.

As the house debated infrastructure donations, political friction surfaced.

Okwir Kizito, councillor representing Aputi, challenged the executive on whether the district was equally prepared to accept a separate donation—a mortuary fridge offered by the Member of Parliament for Kyoga North, Geoffrey Ocen.

Okwir noted that the district executive had long remained silent on MP Ocen’s offer without giving a clear response.

He appealed that the jobs be given to residents of Amolatar when admitting mortuary staff.

Amolatar district chairperson, Ogwal Morish, declined to address his readiness to accept the Kyoga North MP’s fridge donation.

He instead shifted focus to the newly approved project, commending the council for passing the Woman MP’s proposal.

Ogwal assured the house that all administrative procedures are being finalised to immediately hand over the construction site to the Woman MP’s team.

Woman Member of Parliament Janet Auma Okao said: “I thought it was important to put up a fridge to properly keep the dead.”
