Lango CF describes Museveni as a “visionary leader” ahead of 7th term starting May 12

The Lango Cultural Foundation (LCF), acting under the leadership of Won Nyaci (Paramount Chief) Fredrick Ogwal Oyee, together with several Lango clan leaders, has moved to congratulate Uganda’s President-elect, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Museveni, 81, won the January 15 presidential election with over 7 million votes, representing 71.65% of the total valid votes. He defeated his closest challenger, opposition leader Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, who secured 24.72%.

Addressing journalists in Lira City on May 11, 2026, at the office of the Lango Cultural Foundation, the Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Foundation and acting Paramount Chief, Oyee, said the Lango culture traditionally maintains a complex relationship with the central government.

He said Lango has been balancing diplomatic engagement with demands for federalism.

Oyee added that following the results from the Electoral Commission, Museveni’s victory cements his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving and visionary leaders, having first come to power in 1986.

He also praised President Museveni for bringing leadership power to cultural institutions. Additionally, he appealed to those who force themselves into cultural leadership without any respect for the law, to understand that they will neither be respected nor live easy lives in the community.

He encouraged all Ugandans, especially the people of Lango, to reconcile, forgive one another, and work together as we usher in the President-elect.

The Paramount Chief lamented that the Lango sub-region is ready to witness the 7th swearing-in of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Museveni will be sworn in on Tuesday under the NRM theme “Protecting the Gains as we Make a Qualitative Leap into Middle-Income Status.”

“As leaders of a cultural institution, we want to join the entire country in celebrating this great milestone victory for our nation,” Oyee added.

Regional and international delegations and Presidents have started arriving in the country. South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Ethiopia’s President Taye Atske Selassie, among others, have all landed in Uganda.
