Security forces will enforce “a dress code guideline” for journalists, particularly those accredited to cover President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Addressing journalists at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala on Monday, May 11, 2026, the Special Forces Command (SFC), Major Jimmy Omara, said security agencies have recently taken action against journalists over inappropriate dressing.

Museveni Major Omara, who coordinates media, added, “More specifically, during the opening and guarding of the ceremony, some journalists do not dress well. Therefore, we appeal to all accredited journalists to dress smartly.”

“This is an international function for the swearing-in of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. We expect all journalists to dress smartly while remaining very organized and disciplined while on duty,” he added.

Omara also stated that there are restricted areas within the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds where journalists are not allowed to access. These include the tent for heads of state, followed by other VVIP tents.

He noted that the Uganda Media Centre will allocate production spaces for media teams.

Omara warned journalists who have not been accredited not to access the venue to avoid embarrassment.

“No journalist will be allowed to enter the grounds if you have not been accredited. So, if your name is not on the list, please do not come. Accreditation for journalists and their equipment will end at 8:30 am.”
