The fallen Kikuube district chairperson, Banura Peter’s brother Philip Mbabazi Burnet has emerged a winner in the May 21, 2026, National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries elections in Kikuube district.
NRM conducted the primary elections to get another flag bearer after the death of the district chairperson the flag bearer Banura Peter who died on April 4, 2026, in a road crash, a few months after the elections.
Philip Mbabazi emerged a winner after beating down the other three competitors including Kisembo Paddy, Tusabe Dickson and Rubasharaza Varlentino.
The election was conducted under the physical lining system.
The final declaration of results was released by Musuuga K. Paschal, the Kikuube district NRM electoral commission returning officer on May 22.
According to her, Philip Mbabazi Burnet scored 23, 279 votes, translating to 58.0 per cent, ahead of Kisembo Paddy with 16,459 votes, translating to 41.0 per cent.
Tusabe Dickson scored 343 votes making up 0.9 percent and Rubasharaza Varlentino got 81 votes, 0.2 per cent.
Philip Mbabazi Burnet who emerged as the winner of the election expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support offered by voters, pledging better service delivery if voted in the general elections.
Meanwhile, the Kikuube district now looks forward to holding a by-election in June next month, as recently scheduled by the national Electoral Commission.
