Three people have died following a fatal road crash on April 16, 2026, at around 8pm in Agwila village, Adyerakonya parish, Adwari sub-county in Otuke district.
The motor vehicle involved in the crash has been identified with registration number UBR 316D, an Isuzu green/white in colour. It was being driven by a driver yet to be identified, police say.
“It’s alleged that while returning from a burial, on reaching the said point, he was on the phone and driving in an over-speeding manner,” SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga region said on Friday.
“He lost control and the vehicle overturned causing death to three people and injuring 16 other occupants who have all been rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment and the deceased bodies were conveyed to Orum Health Centre mortuary pending postmortem examination.”
SP Okema identified the deceased as Akello Sarah, 30, Omara Jaspher, 27 and Odur Geoffrey, 25. All are residents of Lira City.
The scene was visited by OC traffic, officers and other personnel. A rough sketch plan was drawn and a motor vehicle was still at the scene waiting for towing.
SP Okema added that statements are yet to be recorded from victims to support the investigation. He revealed that files are to be compiled and submitted to RSA for perusal and legal guidance.
The police described the incident “as very unfortunate” – conveying their condolences to the bereaved families.
“We call upon the driver to report himself from hiding, but also urge drivers and other road users to always respect the road safety rules and regulations to avoid such carnage.
