Over 1,245 residents in Amolatar district are set to receive freehold land titles under a Land Management Project initiated by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in partnership with Kwania district.
According to a report from the Senior Land Management Officer, Jasper Denis Amuka, these land titles have already begun arriving from the Ministry.
Amuka explained that residents paid a fee of shs500,000 for the project. “Although the Ministry has completed its part, many residents only showed interest after the project’s initial deadline in October of last year,” he said.
Amuka also highlighted challenges regarding land belonging to various foundation bodies (religious or community organizations).
Out of 30 schools under these bodies, files for several have been processed following a committee review. He urged the public to avoid interfering with government projects to ensure successful outcomes.
Geoffrey Alex Ogwal Adyebo, the LC5 chairperson of Kwania district, stated that they have met with leaders of various foundation bodies in Kwania to resolve ongoing land disputes involving schools, expressing optimism that their land titles will soon be issued.
Ogwal further requested the Lango Regional Land Management Committee to expedite the processing of files sent to them so the ministry can release the land titles, which have faced significant delays.
Lawrence Oruk, the speaker of Chawente sub-county council , criticised foundation bodies for prioritizing their own interests over government development.
He noted that many development projects, including hospitals and schools, are lagging because of internal friction within these organizations.
Rev. Ven. Christopher Ameny, the Archdeacon of Inomo Archdeaconry in West Lango, urged leaders of foundation bodies to use their skills to resolve conflicts rather than letting them escalate into legal battles.
He emphasized that peace is essential for institutional growth.
The Land Management Project is funded by the Ministry and covers 11 districts in Uganda.
In the Lango sub-region, Kwania is the only district benefiting from this specific support under the Uganda Government Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UgIFT) program.
