Premier League: Arsenal beat Tottenham perfectly to stay top

Arsenal scored four fine goals on Sunday February 22 against Tottenham in what is widely said to be a “statement win”.

Mikel Arteta and his boys needed the Sunday win as were Tottenham who are facing relegation threats.

The win takes Arsenal to 61 points, five ahead of Manchester City who had won 2:1 on Saturday when they hosted Newcastle United at Etihad Stadium.

Goals from Arsenal were scored by Eberechi Eze in the 32nd and 61st minutes with a quick response from Tottenham’s Kolo Muani three minutes (34) after Eze put the visitors in front.

Viktor Gyökeres played the best game since joining Arsenal, scoring in the 47th and 90+4th minutes, respectively.

The number nine of Arsenal walked back home with the Man of the Match award.

With 10 games to go, Arsenal will host Chelsea on March 1, while Leeds will welcome Manchester City on February 28.

“We need to understand the beauty of this sport, that a few days ago against Wolves, we drew a match in the last kick of the game, and watching it back, there’s no explanation how this happened,” manager Mikel Arteta said.

“And it feels like you are at the bottom, and you’re not good enough, and you are angry, and upset, and ashamed. But then it’s okay. Each chapter is part of the journey, part of the history of the season. Now, how are we going to use that to define our season? That was the reaction that we wanted,” he added.

Igor Tudor, Tottenham interim head coach said: “Arsenal are probably the best team in the world right now… it was not easy.”
