The Minister of State for Defence in charge of Veterans Affairs Huda Abason, has applauded the UPDF engineers brigade for exceeding expectations in the construction of health centres and secondary school structures in Luwero district.
During an inspection and supervisory tour of the ongoing construction projects in Luwero, Abason commended the brigade’s work on Luweero General Hospital, Nabiswera HCIV general ward, Ngoma HCIV doctors’ houses, Mazolidi College Nakaseke, and Wobulenzi Target Secondary School.
The minister stated that the UPDF soldiers’ achievements exemplify the concept of “beyond the guns.” She highlighted the soldiers’ ability to contribute to social economic development in a stable country.
Huda also applauded the Ministry of Health and Education for extending the contract to the UPDF Engineers Brigade, citing the army’s professionalism and capabilities in executing development projects.
“We now have a professional army with all capabilities, and I call upon other ministries to follow this example, as the army is capable with different professions,” she said.
She thanked the President Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Ministry of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs management for their efforts in professionalizing the forces, emphasising the need for continued capacity building to keep pace with global transformations.
Additionally, she stressed the importance of inspection tours in ensuring that funds are utilised effectively.
Alozius Bakusera, deputy head teacher of Mazolidi Secondary School and a community leader, expressed gratitude for the ministry’s social responsibility.
