Police in Lira City West Division are investigating a suspected murder case after the decomposing body of an unidentified man was discovered in a school latrine.
The incident was discovered on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Saviour Senior Secondary School in Kakoge “B” Cell, Lira City.
The report was made to police at approximately 9:30 a.m. by Adupa Johnson, 57, Managing Director of the school and a resident of the area.
Authorities believe the incident occurred on an unknown date prior to the discovery.
North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed that the deceased is an unidentified man. “No suspects have been identified at this time, while investigation is going on upon the incident,” stated Okema.
Okema detailed that Adupa Johnson alerted police after the body was found inside a pit latrine on the school premises. The exact date of death has not yet been established – too.
A case file of suspected murder has been opened. After interviewing the reporter, a team of investigators—including the District Police Commander, CID officers, Crime Intelligence, the Scenes of Crime team, the Fire Brigade, and the Homicide unit—visited, examined, and documented the scene.
The fire brigade retrieved the body, which was then taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the school compound is neither fenced nor guarded. Evidence suggests the victim may have been murdered elsewhere before the body was transported and placed into the latrine.
Police noted that the latrine manhole appeared to have been removed and later replaced after the body was dumped inside.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge, SP Okema added.
