Lira regional referral hospital is “fast growing” – says Kabale regional referral hospital board chair

Kabale Regional Referral Hospital board and top management travelled to Lira City to benchmark at Lira Regional Referral Hospital

The delegation was composed of board members and top management led by the chairperson of the board, Dr Ananaria Muhunde and Hospital Director Dr Filbert Nyeko.

lira On Wednesday February 11, 2026, Dr Muhunde and his delegation shared “collegial experiences on the health service delivery.”

Key focuses were on “quality of clinical care, infrastructural development, hospital land management, functionalization of private wings, and research for decision making.”

Lira Regional Referral Hospital Director Dr Andrew Odur highlighted to the visiting team the strides the hospital has made in ensuring that the citizenry get high quality medical care.

Dr Odur said the hospital was “impressed by the trust and confidence that other institutions have in the hospital.” “This has challenged the team to reflect even more,” he added.

“We take the benchmarking very seriously, it gives us a lot of reflection.”

According to Dr Odur, the time one starts to do something good, is a big challenge for more work.

With the benchmarking and trust coming from within and outside, Dr Odur stated they will have more energy and encouragement to deliver more for the people of Lango.

The hospital principal administrator Peter Okello Odeke in his address, said the hospital management was grateful for the decision that Kabale RRH took to visit them.

Odeke described the visit as “bringing cross pollination of ideas and bonding between the two hospitals.”

Dr Anania Muhunde revealed that they chose Lira RR Hospital because they were impressed by how the hospital is fast growing and improvement in the quality of services being offered to the populace.

“We must accept that we have learnt a lot from Lira Regional Referral Hospital and success is the clear result of clear thinking,” Dr Muhende said.

Kabaale Regional Referral Hospital Director Dr Filbert Nyeko applauded Lira for hosting them, adding that the visit was very impactful.

Dr Muhende urged the team to go and implement the things they have learnt from Lira which they will call the “Lira Declaration” – emphasising the need to start small just like Lira is doing.

The new innovations which the Kabaale Regional Hospital team appreciated are super specialised services like dialysis, pediatric surgery, orderliness, cleanliness and good walkways.

They were also amazed at how the management was able to attract external donors, motivate the staff to work with minimal supervision and keep a clean hospital despite the huge number of patients.
