Kiira police assure voters of safe election environment

The RPC of Kiira Region, SSP Charles Nsaba, stated that all voters and other stakeholders will not be intimidated, harassed, beaten up, manipulated, or discouraged from voting.

He added that combined security agencies will be strategically deployed to swiftly counter or respond to any emerging security threats or situations.

Nsaba made the above submission during the Regional JOC meeting held at the Civil Service College in Jinja City on January 8.

The RPC further emphasized that the mission for the coming general elections is to jointly secure peaceful and credible elections, with focus on all polling stations and tally centres, protecting government installations or facilities without fail, and offering public safety and security to the general public.

The RPC warned those planning, recruiting, and training defiant groups to cause politically driven unrest to desist from such unlawful activities, adding that culprits will face the long arm of the law decisively and expeditiously.

The Commander of the Headquarters of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability (URDC), Brig Gen Earnest Nuwagaba, who represented the Cantonment Commander Busoga, Brig Gen Emmanuel Kanyesigye, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting police in maintaining public safety, law, and order before, during, and after elections.

He warned that nobody should think about destabilizing Jinja because Jinja is strategically located with 24/7 strategic security, which has led to unanimous international appreciation of Jinja as one of Africa’s tourist destinations.

The RCC Jinja City, Mr Richard Gulume, together with the RDC Jinja District, Hajji Ahmed Kateregga Musaazi, commended RPC SSP Charles Nsaba for policing the festive season, on top of conducting ongoing peaceful campaigns without registering any serious incident.

Consistent efforts, high discipline, and morale of personnel should be maintained, the RCC said, adding that the whole country is proud of Jinja.

Police, being the lead agency, all commanding officers have been twinned and conducted joint ground descriptions of all polling stations and tally centres.

Deployment of combined joint security forces to all critical government facilities or installations and the general public has been done.

High voter participation, strategic and non-discriminative deployment of joint security forces will run from January 15 up to February 6 and subsequently after the general elections.
