UPDF detonates grenade in Amolatar town council

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a potential disaster was averted in Inomo ward, Amolatar town council, when experts from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) bomb unit successfully detonated a grenade.

The grenade was discovered in the garden of the local council chairperson of Inono ward.

The discovery soon raised concerns among residents, but swift action and community awareness ensured safety in the area.

According to an officer who chose to remain anonymous, the grenade had been lying unnoticed for a considerable time.

He speculated that it might date back to World War II, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and caution in the community.

“This device could have caused a serious accident if it had been disturbed or mishandled,” he noted.

The officer praised the local residents for their proactive approach in notifying the police and maintaining a safe distance, which undoubtedly contributed to preventing a potential tragedy.

The grenade was first unearthed on Sunday, August 3 prompting immediate concern among the locals.

Eyewitnesses recounted the tense atmosphere surrounding the discovery, highlighting the community’s relief when the UPDF arrived to handle the situation.

As news of the detonation spread, residents were reminded of the importance of educating the younger generation about safety precautions regarding unknown objects.

Many expressed their gratitude and urged parents to instill awareness in their children.

Mama Aisha, said: “Back in my day, we were always told to be careful. I’m glad the youth today are more informed. Education is key.”

As the dust settled from the successful detonation, the sense of unity and responsibility in Inomo ward was palpable.
