President Yoweri Museveni has heeded the calls of the people of Oyam District, and granted Aber District.
The “declaration” came after the majority of the crowds at Oyam Boma Grounds voted for “Aber District” to “working on roads.”
The President had earlier confirmed receiving requests from Lango, requesting that Oyam District give birth to Aber.
Veteran politicians like Beatrice Lagada and Isaah Otto Amiza have repeatedly said that Aber should have been given a district status way back in 2011.
tndNews understands that several formal requests were submitted to the Ministry of Local Government but nothing positive came up.
This year, Oyam North MP, Dr Eunice Apio Otuko wrote a letter to President Museveni, following up on earlier requests for Aber District.
Addressing a rally at Oyam Boma Grounds, President Museveni said of the demands for Aber District: “I surrender.”
He further made a commitment to construct more roads in Oyam and other parts of Lango, even when the money the government should have spent on roads [part of it] will go towards the operationalisation of Aber.
