The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the two-day fresh nomination exercise for electoral areas where nominated candidates passed away will officially end later this evening, Tuesday October 28, 2025.
The exercise, which commenced on Monday, is being conducted in line with Section 26 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177.
The Cap provides for fresh nominations in the event of a candidate’s death before polling. It allows political parties and aspiring leaders to present new candidates for the affected positions ahead of the 2026 general elections.
According to the EC, the exercise only applies to electoral areas where a candidate’s death created a vacancy.
However, those who were previously nominated to contest for the same elective positions are not required to undergo nomination again.
Meanwhile, the EC has allocated January 15, 2026, for presidential and parliamentary elections.
Eight candidates are currently campaigning after they were nominated to vie for the presidency.
