Lira—4, December 2021: Uganda will Saturday afternoon receive 3,050,400 does of Johnson and Johnson vaccines, a donation from the government of Germany.
The Ministry of Health’s Senior Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ainebyoona described the donation as “more”, adding that, “We shall meet our vaccination target.”
Meanwhile, Uganda, days ago received donations comprising oxygen cylinders worth US$1.2m to support the Covid-19 national response from The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), a global health organization committed to saving lives, reducing the burden of disease and strengthening health systems.
“CHAI is a key partner in health and continues to improve the health of Ugandans,” Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Health says.
United Nations (UN) Secretary General said Saturday that low vaccination rates combined with deeply unequal access to vaccines are creating a breeding ground for COVID-19 variants.
Antonio Guterres added: “We need true vaccine solidarity – now.”
COVID-19 figures
According to the Ministry of Health’s current data, 6,793,643 doses have been administered, and 1,978,839 tests conducted since last two years.
Uganda’s cumulative cases stand at 127,616, as per the ministry figures of 2, December. 97,597 have recovered from the virus; 3,254 have lost their lives and there were 115 active cases on admission by 2, December 2021.
32 new Covid cases have been recorded in the latest data released by the health ministry on Saturday. 30 are alerts and contacts from Wakiso (10), Kampala (9), Oyam (4), Mbarara (3), Kalaki (1) and Jinja (1).
Two (2) were truckers from Amuru district in Northern Uganda.
