Lamwo – February 20, 2022: The detectives at Lamwo Central Police Station on Friday evening arrested a female medical staff attached to Lukungu Health Center III to answer an alleged case of defilement.
Akello Catherine, 34, works as an information assistant to the above health unit. She is being accused of defiling a minor on December 10, 2021. The minor is her neighbor.
Akello has been on the run since last year, according to the report. Fortunately, she was arrested from Lamwo district headquarters where she had turned up for a workshop.
On December 10, 2021, between 7:30 pm-8:00 pm, while at Lukungu Health Center III staff quarters, Akello was reported to have followed the minor to the bathroom where she allegedly defiled him.
According to the victim’s mother, her son took long in the bathroom prompted her to check on him only to shockingly find Akello having sexual intercourse with her son in the bathroom.
She further revealed that it was during the scuffle that Akello escaped from the scene.
ASP David Ongom Mudong, Aswa-River Region Police spokesperson said that it is so unfortunate that an adult woman who is expected to protect juveniles against perpetrators of defilement ended up victimizing the juvenile.
He added that the police condemn this act and shall ensure that the suspect faces the law.
According to Mudong, the suspect has now been arrested and will be subjected to medical examination through the police regional surgeon to ascertain her health status.
Akello’s charge and caution statement will be recorded, the file shall be submitted to Random Sexual Acts (RSA) for perusal and legal advice, according to Mudong.
Her case was recorded vide SD Ref. 04/12/10/2021.
