The Karamoja sub-region is ready to host a significant political event after the successful nomination of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer for the upcoming presidential elections.
The announcement was made at a media briefing in Moroto town on Friday, September 26, by Dr John Lokii, the NRM Regional Vice Chairperson for Karamoja.
Dr Loki stated that the party structures were fully prepared and witnessed the Electoral Commission officially nominate their candidate.
“The entire NRM fraternity in Karamoja is ready and enthusiastic about the nomination of our party chairman, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” said Dr Lokii.
“Our grassroots mobilisation has been extensive, and we expect a massive turnout of supporters to demonstrate the overwhelming support the NRM enjoys in this region.”
The event is expected to be a major rallying point for the party, showcasing unity and strength ahead of the general elections in 2026.
Dr Lokii emphasised that the event will be conducted in a peaceful and celebratory manner, reflecting the region’s commitment to the NRM’s development agenda.
“We are ready to show the nation that Karamoja is firmly behind President Museveni and his vision for continued transformation and prosperity for all Ugandans.”
Local party officials have been coordinating with security agencies to ensure the event is secure and orderly. Supporters are expected to arrive from all nine districts of the sub-region while dressed in the party’s signature yellow colour.
When Museveni will be in Karamoja has not yet been confirmed
