By Nasuru Hassan Ocen | Dokolo CAO has urged teachers to resume teaching as negotiations with the government are ongoing for salary enhancement.
Speaking on Wednesday afternoon, Chief Administrative Officer of Dokolo Granfil Oryono Omonda appealed to teachers to call off industrial actions for the better performance of learners.
Oryono Omonda explained that it is the mandate of the central government to harmonise and reconcile the disputes accordingly. He noted that according to the Constitution of Uganda, the labour law did not accept or allow anybody to force labour supply.
The District Inspector of Schools for Dokolo, Susan Lea Adoma, said they registered a low turnout of teachers and pupils on the first and second days of school reopening for the third term 2025.
Adoma said in Okwalongen Primary School, only the head teacher was present; at Angwecibange Primary School, 13 teachers were present, and at Awiri, 10 teachers were present.
At Alapata, 5 teachers, Adip, 5 teachers; Acoto, 2 teachers and 2 pupils, while at Alenga only 07 pupils reported on the first day.
Adoma said the absenteeism of teachers and pupils at school will greatly contribute to the poor performance of learners across the district.

She encouraged the parents to take their children to school for proper revision because the examination is just around the corner.
Recently, the Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) ordered teachers in government institutions never to enter classrooms until the government addresses the issues of salary disparities in both primary and post-primary schools across the country.
